Ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Professor Werner Praznik
A ceremony was held yesterday at the University of Agriculture in Cracow to confer the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on Professor Werner Praznik of the Universität für Bodenkultur (BOKU) in Vienna.
The ceremony, which took place on September 19, 2024 at the URK Congress Center, brought together a large number of prominent representatives of the scientific world, both from Poland and abroad, as well as the Professor's family and friends.
Professor Werner Praznik is an outstanding specialist in the field of plant carbohydrate research, having actively contributed to the development of the field for more than four decades. His research on the structure and application of starches, fructans and glucans in functional foods has had a significant impact on biotechnology and the food industry. The Professor's cooperation with the Agricultural University of Cracow has resulted in many joint projects and innovative solutions, which formed the basis of his candidacy for this prestigious title.
The ceremony was opened by the Rector of the Agricultural University of Cracow, Dr. Sylwester Tabor, Prof. URK, who emphasized the importance of this unique award both for the university and for Professor Praznik himself. In his speech, he expressed appreciation for the laureate's scientific achievements, his contribution to research on plant carbohydrates and his merits in educating future generations of scientists.
The laudation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Agnieszka Filipiak-Florkiewicz, who gave a detailed presentation of Professor Praznik's silhouette and achievements to the gathering. After the laudation, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Duda, Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology, read out the text of the honorary doctorate degree in Latin. JM Rector then solemnly presented the diploma to Professor Praznik, congratulating him on this honorable award.
After the official ceremony, Professor Werner Praznik delivered a scientific lecture, in which he presented the latest results of his research and shared his thoughts on the importance of carbohydrates in food technology and their impact on human health. The lecture was met with great interest by the attendees.
At the end of the ceremony, the Rector of URK wished Professor Praznik continued scientific success, health and satisfaction with his scientific work, thanking him for his years of fruitful cooperation and invaluable contribution to the development of food technology.
