BIP ERASMUS+ course “Biodiversity Conservation”

01.06.2025

In the period 19-23.05.2025, the Faculty of Forestry of the UR in Krakow hosted an intensive BIP ERASMUS+ course “Biodiversity Conservation”, which was attended by 36 students and 12 teachers from 13 European universities: from Finland, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Romania, Serbia and Poland.

Participants in this international event dealt with the issue of reconciling biodiversity conservation with goprocessing activities in forests, as well as the challenges of the impact of invasive species, water management in forests and the creation of forests with a dominant social function on the preservation and shaping of biodiversity. During the week, field trips to the Piwniczna Forest District and the Ojcow National Park provided insight into actual field activities that enable biodiversity conservation and the many challenges in these areas. At the end of the course students in international groups, prepared presentations covering the problems analyzed throughout the week.

The meeting of so many students and teachers from numerous academic centers interested in biodiversity conservation provided a platform for the exchange of views and ideas, as well as for the establishment of new and perhaps lasting contacts among the participants.

The main organizer of this event on behalf of the Forestry Department was Maciej Pach, PhD, Prof. URK , and the participants were Prof. Jerzy Szwagrzyk, PhD, and Anna Gazda, PhD, Prof. URK.
